Today, during the 2024 developer conference, Google unveiled the new Gemini features in the Gmail app for users on Android and iOS platforms.
Until now, the AI features in the Gmail app have been limited to assisting users in composing emails. However, the I/O 2024 event today revealed new advancements in AI features within the app.
Google is introducing the “Email Summarization” feature in the Gmail app on both Android and iOS platforms. The new button for this feature appears just below the subject line and at the top of the Gemini summary screen.
This week, Workspace Labs users will receive the summarization feature, with a rollout to Google One AI Premium subscribers and Gemini’s paid service users scheduled for next June.
In addition to the summarization feature, Google is also introducing the “Gmail Q&A” feature in the Gmail app. A new Gemini icon will appear in the upper right corner of the inbox in the mobile app, allowing users to input queries, next steps, or suggestions, such as “What are the questions for my upcoming meeting?” or “Compare price quotes.” This feature will be available to Workspace Labs users in July.
The app will track the context of messages to provide more personalized and accurate suggestions, which will appear quickly among several options.
