Google Messages’ Gemini emerged from beta at I/O 2024 last month, now featuring a dual FAB design.
In a somewhat prominent push, the floating “Start Chat” action button now directly incorporates a smaller-sized Gemini FAB above it. When interacting with the rectangle, the square appears unaligned. Everything aligns visually when scrolling.
There’s a precedent for this look in Google Drive, where the “new” FAB pairs with the scan shortcut. However, the camera disappears when scrolling.
Simply clicking opens a Gemini chat for continuous access to the AI-powered chatbot, which should remain supported by Gemini 1.0 Pro and improved for delivering concise responses.
This Gemini FAB is now live in Google Messages for some beta users. Looking ahead, the Gemini icon will appear in the top-right corner of Gmail for Android/iOS for accessing Q&A capability while shining light on how to access the sidebar on the desktop web.
