YouTube recently warned OpenAI against using YouTube clips in the generative artificial intelligence technology training process in the “Sora” program.

OpenAI has returned to the spotlight after a year since the launch of the “ChatGPT” chatbot. However, the focus is now on the “Sora” program, which was developed to convert texts into videos, aiming to create models for realistic videos based on the initial video.

The “Sora” program has raised many questions about its training mechanism, especially after the recent interview with Mira Murati, where she was questioned about whether the “Sora” program relies on using clips from the YouTube platform as a source for training the program. Still, she did not provide a specific answer.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Neal Mohan, the CEO of YouTube, he has warned OpenAI against using YouTube clips to train the “Sora” program. He also emphasized that the company did not authorize OpenAI to use these clips.

Mohan stressed that one of the main expectations of content creators on the YouTube platform is to comply with the platform’s terms, especially with the effort users put into creating video clips.

It is worth mentioning that the training mechanism of OpenAI models for generative artificial intelligence has raised many questions since its inception, including programs like DALL-E, ChatGPT, and Sora. A report from Wall Street confirmed that the company plans to reuse YouTube clips to train GPT-5, which contradicts the terms of service provided by the YouTube platform.
