After introducing the dual-column layout for descriptions and comments, the YouTube app on TV prominently showcases “key moments.”

Yesterday, Neil Mohan from YouTube shared how users can “easily access automatically created ‘key moments’ from any video.” This was described as an example of the company’s “continued innovation to make the TV experience better.”

The white dots on the red progress bar indicate the availability of key moments. Then, by clicking left/right on the remote, users can see thumbnail circles with accompanying labels. Pressing “up” then reveals the key moments and allows for quick navigation between categorized clips.

The example shared by YouTube was a nearly 3-hour-long event from the Olympics. The key moments show each attempt with descriptions including the athlete’s name and country. This feature serves as an alternative to content creators manually creating video chapters.

This is also available on the web when expanding the description. You can browse “key moments” as a list beside the video, but we don’t see it on mobile phones, which offer precise search functionality instead.
