Yesterday, OpenAI started opening up ChatGPT for users who do not have an account. This move was described as part of its mission to “make tools like ChatGPT widely accessible so people can experience the benefits of artificial intelligence.”

It also provides the company with more training data (for those who prefer not to subscribe) and may encourage more users to create accounts and subscribe for access to GPT-4 instead of the older GPT-3.5 model available to free users.

OpenAI says they are gradually providing access, so you should check back later if you haven’t seen the option yet. The company also mentioned that they have added additional guarantees for users without accounts, including claims for bans and generating images across more categories than logged-in users.

OpenAI stated that over 100 million people in 185 countries use ChatGPT weekly. These are impressive numbers for a service that’s only 18 months old from a company that many people hadn’t heard of two years ago.

This new step provides an incentive for those hesitant to create an account to experience the world-changing chatbot program, further bolstering these numbers.
