The screen effects feature is slowly rolling out on the Google Messages app with only a subset of users having access.

This expressive feature displays animated artwork across the entire screen for a few seconds when sending or receiving specific phrases.

For example, when sending “I love you” or “Happy Valentine’s Day,” you’ll see hearts and birds flying toward your screen.

Overall, Google has hidden over 15 words for screen effects, and they work in both RCS chats and SMS, with no current way to turn them off.

This feature has been rolling out in recent weeks on the beta version, with increased availability before Valentine’s Day.
