Samsung had last used the Tizen operating system on its devices before the Galaxy Watch 4 when the company transitioned to Wear OS for its main wearable devices.

Samsung is preparing to discontinue support for the Tizen OS by the end of 2025.

Tizen OS was controversial when it was available for the Galaxy Watch series, including the Active One and Active Two models. Despite this, it worked well for Samsung’s smartwatches, which remained popular even as Wear OS struggled across Android OEM wearables.

With the release of the Galaxy Watch 4, Samsung ceased using Tizen OS, which featured a hybrid operating system developed in partnership with Google.

Although Wear OS is officially recognized, Samsung refers to it as One UI Watch, which has significantly enhanced the overall performance of its smartwatch.

A user on Reddit shared that Samsung has begun informing people of their plans to shut down Tizen OS by the end of 2025 (via Android Authority).

Changes begin immediately, including a ban on any new content for Tizen watches from the Galaxy Store. Samsung has stated that services related to these watches will cease everywhere except for the Galaxy Store.

After this change, purchased items from the Galaxy Store, including watch faces bought for the Galaxy Watch 3, will no longer be available for download.

Samsung notes that current downloads will remain on devices. This will take effect on September 30, 2025. This will be Samsung’s final step in ending support for the Tizen OS in any capacity for smartwatches.
