Following the integration of Galaxy AI into smartphones, Samsung is now working on adding artificial intelligence to its smart home products.

According to a report from Business Korea, Samsung may launch AI-powered home appliances as early as next year. The company aims to create a “hyper-connected ecosystem” by incorporating AI into its smart home products.

This move will help Samsung strengthen its position against competitors like Apple and Google. The home appliances targeted for release in 2025 are expected to run some large language models (LLMs) on-device, which is beneficial for user privacy.

The company plans to introduce Bixby voice assistant controls for its smart home products in July of this year. Initially, Samsung will rely on the cloud to power LLM programs.

Some of the Samsung smart home products that will feature AI include Family Hub refrigerators, washing machines, and induction cookers from the Samsung Bespoke AI line, which comes with LCD screens.

These AI-enabled home appliances are expected to offer numerous capabilities, such as translation services, which are mainly limited to smartphones.

With the Bixby voice assistant enhanced by the latest large language models, smart home products will understand more complex commands and provide a more natural user experience. Reportedly, these products will also remember previous conversations and offer additional benefits.

The number of smart home products connected to Samsung SmartThings has surpassed 20 million. Notably, this number was around 10 million in 2022. By next year, it is expected to reach 30 million.
