Review of Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro Integrated Keyboard

Table of content

The Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro keyboard is an excellent choice for any gamer looking for a comfortable, high-performance keyboard packed with features. However, it’s also an expensive keyboard and lacks the wireless capability found in previous versions, attempting to compensate for this with dedicated macro keys.

We had the opportunity to test the BlackWidow V4 Pro keyboard, and in this review, we’ll go over everything you need to know about the keyboard’s features, drawbacks, and whether it’s worth buying or not.

Firstly, the keyboard boasts an 8000Hz polling rate, a feature where the keyboard outperforms most competitors, alongside dedicated macro keys that align with the full-size keyboard layout. The keyboard is incredibly comfortable, and you won’t feel like you’ve spent hours gaming on it. The ambient RGB lighting is one of the standout features where the keyboard excels over competing keyboards.

There’s no doubt that the BlackWidow V4 Pro faces stiff competition in the market, but in reality, the keyboard can hold its ground and surpass any gaming keyboard due to its rich features. However, if wireless connectivity is essential for you, then you should look for another keyboard.

The BlackWidow V4 Pro keyboard is available for purchase now through the official Razer website or authorized retailers for $230. While the price may be somewhat steep and not suitable for all gamers, if you can afford it, it’s worth it thanks to its fantastic features, distinctive design, and high performance. There are gaming keyboards available in the market for an economical price of under $100, but they lack several essential features found in the BlackWidow V4 Pro, alongside the luxurious feel that Razer products provide. On the other hand, if you’re in the market for top-tier keyboards, then this keyboard is one of the ideal choices for all gamers.

The Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro keyboard features an elegant black appearance and a simple classic design primarily suitable for gaming enthusiasts and meeting their demanding needs. The keyboard comes either with green keys for tactile response or yellow linear keys for smooth and quiet operation, both offering a lifespan of up to 100 million key presses according to Razer’s tests. The keyboard comes with a highly durable top cover made of 5052 aluminum alloy, and it’s evident that all its details are built from high-quality materials as expected from Razer.

The keyboard comes with ABS keys instead of PBT, but there’s no compromise on quality. These keys produce a more moderate and smooth sound. While mechanical keyboard users might prefer PBT keys, they won’t be a significant factor for most people.

The addition of macro keys, which were missing in the previous BlackWidow V3 Pro version, is very welcome. The keyboard has eight macro keys, five aligned on the left side of the layout, with the remaining three on the keyboard’s side that can be used for profile switching.

There’s also a dedicated media roller with four custom buttons along with an infinite control dial, both of which are programmable. The dial can be used for controlling the microphone, horizontal scrolling in spreadsheets, or customized as needed.

One thing you’ll notice about the design is the large size of the keyboard, so you’ll need more space than usual on your desk due to the full row of macro keys on the left, along with the wide wristrest, which also requires sufficient space. However, the wristrest is fully detachable, but the keyboard still needs additional space to accommodate mouse movement. If you’re used to compact keyboards, you might initially notice a slight impact on typing accuracy with this keyboard, but you’ll quickly get used to it. If you’re a professional gamer accustomed to large keyboards, you’ll feel more power and control at your fingertips.

The vibrant RGB lighting is a differentiating factor in Razer products. The BlackWidow V4 Pro keyboard not only features lit keys but also the entire keyboard glows with RGB lighting, enhancing the base attractively, including the sides and the magnetic wrist rest made of synthetic leather.

In terms of performance, you’ll get a precise, easy-to-use, and responsive keyboard with an 8000Hz polling rate. The keycaps are carefully designed with a slight and flexible curvature that makes it easy to keep your fingers on the keys you want to press. The keys are spaced apart, so you won’t feel them crowded, and you’ll have enough space to control your fingers across the entire keyboard. There are no issues related to response time, continuous pressing, or any performance-related problems, whether using the keyboard in fast-paced gaming or heavy typing.

Overall, the keyboard features the latest generation of mechanical keys from Razer, producing less noise than most mechanical keyboards, and the typing sound is very satisfying for me. Many gamers might not care about additional key features like the yellow keys that offer a smooth and quiet experience, but it remains a welcome addition as they require a light touch without feeling any disturbance.

As with most Razer keyboards, there are plenty of customization options available. The keyboard features macro keys and dedicated media keys that are fully customizable via the Razer Synapse application. The application is crucial with this keyboard as it unlocks its full potential and allows you to benefit from all functions and customization, including advanced RGB lighting control.

  • If you’re a customization enthusiast, the BlackWidow V4 Pro keyboard provides everything you need, from 8 dedicated macro keys to the new customizable control dial.
  • For RGB enthusiasts, this keyboard will be a treasure. The keyboard features lighting for each key, allowing you to get brighter and more vibrant RGB effects.
  • We also recommend the keyboard for people looking for the best possible performance and a fast, comfortable tactile experience. The keyboard offers an extremely fast response rate of up to 8000Hz, making it outperform many keyboards in the market.
  • If you have a limited budget, there are many good keyboards in the market currently at an economical price. While some of these keyboards may not offer the same features and quality as the BlackWidow V4 Pro, at the same time, investing $230 may not be the best option for all gamers.
  • If wireless connectivity support is essential for you, many alternatives in the market support wireless connectivity, including the previous version of this keyboard, the Razer BlackWidow V3 Pro.
  • If you’re used to compact keyboards or don’t have enough space on your desk.
  • Great performance
  • Distinctive RGB design
  • Comfortable gaming or typing keyboard
  • Return of dedicated macro keys
  • High customization capabilities
  • Expensive
  • Lacks wireless capability

The Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro is a full-size gaming keyboard with an additional row of macro buttons on the left side. The keyboard may be slightly larger than usual, but if you have the necessary space, it’s undoubtedly worth buying for what it offers in terms of features that make it the best in the market, starting from full programmable buttons to dedicated media controls and an additional command dial and eight macro keys with an amazing response rate. However, these features do come at $230.
