Apple released the first beta versions of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 earlier this month during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), and today the company is launching the second beta for both.

It is worth noting that these are not public beta versions; they are focused on developers and can only be installed by them. Public beta versions will be available next month.

iPadOS 18 beta 2 provides support for alternative app stores in the European Union, along with alternative payment options in the Apple App Store, a default web browser selection screen, and the ability for browsers to use engines other than Safari.

This comes from the European Commission designating iPadOS as a “gatekeeper” platform, making these features mandatory under the EU Digital Markets Act.

Apple first added all these features to iOS 17.4 in March, and they are also coming to iPadOS.

Meanwhile, the second beta of iOS 18 supports copying iPhones on the second beta of macOS Sequoia. This allows you to control your iPhone using a Mac, with the phone remaining locked the entire time.

This feature was announced at the WWDC. Apple also finally supports the RCS protocol in iOS 18, and a new switch will appear if your carrier supports RCS.
