In 2021, I tried the Razer Blackshark V2 Pro headset, and I felt like I had found my perfect gaming headset in terms of all the elements I desired at the time, such as comfort, performance, and durability. However, the 2023 version came along and completely changed my mind, with a 100% improvement over the old headset, making the 2023 edition an unbeatable headset! Here’s a review of the Razer Blackshark V2 Pro 2023 edition.

  • Razer Blackshark V2 Pro 2023 headset
  • USB Type A dongle
  • USB Type A to A cable
  • USB Type A to C cable
  • Detachable microphone

The headset’s design is one of the most elegant designs lately, but it’s worth noting that the design hasn’t changed from the 2021 version to now. This version also comes in both black and white colors, and the version I received was the white one, which I prefer.

The headset design relies on simplicity and subtlety; there’s no RGB lighting source on the headset, which might disappoint some, but it wasn’t a dealbreaker for me. The construction of the headset also lacks any metal pieces except for the area of the headset volume adjustment, which relies on two small metal pieces connected to small rods on either side of the headset.

The top part of the headset is made of white leather, with an elegant design carrying the engraved Razer logo and neat stitching. The fabric-covered thick yet lightweight material on the head-facing side provides a comfortable experience during extended use.

On the sides of the headset, you’ll find the Razer logo, represented by the triple-headed snake, and beneath the sound-emitting part are the three buttons (Mute-Power) and Switch on the other side.

In terms of numbers, the Razer Blackshark V2 Pro operates at a frequency range of 12 to 28 thousand Hertz for the speakers and from 100 to 10 thousand Hertz for the microphone, with a sensitivity of 100 decibels for the speakers and -42 dB sensitivity for the microphone, which is exceptionally sensitive. The speaker drivers are 50 millimeters in size, but how do these numbers reflect on the actual performance of the headset and the efficiency of its features?

The weight of the headphones is only 320 grams, which is a significantly low number, ideal for those who spend long hours gaming, especially esports players.

One of the most powerful microphones in wireless headsets ever (32KHZ).

Razer’s TriForce Titanium 50mm drivers stand out from regular drivers as they process each sound at a different frequency separately. High-frequency sounds are processed separately from medium and low-frequency sounds.

With Bluetooth 5.2 speed, the headphones connect to your device and transmit audio at an ultra-fast speed, surpassing even some wired headphones.

Customizing sound profiles with your favorite games is made possible by Razer, offering five preset profiles for selection among the most popular shooting games. Currently, the games supporting this feature are:

  • APEX LEGENDS
  • CALL OF DUTY
  • CS: GO
  • FORTNITE
  • VALORANT

The Ear Cups, responsible for isolating external noise from your ears, have been reinforced internally for stronger isolation while maintaining comfort. This version has become more sound-isolating compared to the previous one.

The headset’s battery provides a full 70 hours of continuous use, supports fast charging, and can be charged for 15 minutes for over 6 hours of usage. Additionally, you can charge the headset while using it. More on battery testing in the performance section.

The headset offers 5 audio customization options, 2 of which are for gaming. In one of the gaming options, labeled “Customization,” there are 5 game-specific choices. Additionally, there are options for Movies, Music, and Games, ensuring a more tailored experience according to the activity you’re using the headset for. This feature, in general, was one of the most fantastic and smoothest experiences I’ve seen in navigating between modes with just a single press of the headset’s button.

I found this headset to be my constant companion wherever I went. I especially liked the smoothness of transitioning between platforms it’s connected to and the ease of using its various technologies, which ensured a high-quality experience. I used the headset to listen to everything from YouTube videos to games of all kinds, whether they were AAA titles, shooters, or horror games relying on surround sound.

The overall experience was positive, and I found that the headset managed to stay on for a continuous 72 hours in my usage (spread over a week). Charging for just 15 minutes gave me a full 6.5 hours of usage.

Unfortunately, you can’t use the included wires to turn the headset into a wired one while preserving the battery. However, the good news is that you can charge it while in use, and it supports fast charging via a USB Type-C port, another feature the 2023 version offers over the previous version, which used Micro USB for charging.

Volume adjustment is done through a classic slider resembling old speaker systems on the side of the headset, which I found to be a smart design choice as it’s the easiest to use while gaming and getting immersed in the atmosphere.

As for communicating with friends, the detachable microphone provides the best way to enjoy gaming, with or without it. Personally, a non-detachable microphone tends to bother me, and the weight of the headset increases on my ear with continuous use.

The Ear Cups have become more secure than before, providing more indirect sound isolation. These headphones offer one of the most ear-comfortable experiences I’ve ever had; they don’t cause ear heat, sweat, or even headaches during prolonged use. The longest I’ve used them continuously was 7 hours, and I didn’t feel any fatigue in the ear and head area afterward. The extremely lightweight, absence of heavy metal pieces in the overall headset frame, and the directly opposed top arch to the head, reinforced and padded with comfortable faux-leather-like fabric, all contribute to this comfort.

I used the Blackshark V2 Pro 2023 headset with my PS5 using its included USB dongle, and the experience was fantastic. The sound clarity through the headphones or even the microphone, which many of my friends who played with me remarked on due to its clarity and sound quality, was excellent. As for the audio experience, I benefited the most from the surround sound in shooter and horror games, but in other games, the difference wasn’t significant. Games like GTA V and Forspoken didn’t benefit much from these technologies, which is normal. Therefore, you should consider what type of gamer you are. If you’re not going to play competitive Esports games or even horror games that heavily rely on surround sound, then these headset features might not matter much to you, and vice versa.

Esports players are always looking for any advantage they can gain over their competitors, whether it’s buying a professional controller with adjustable trigger buttons for response time or buying monitors with higher refresh rates and lower input lag. The Blackshark V2 Pro headset provides this advantage with home platforms and computers. I believe its biggest advantage is that it offers everything you could dream of in a wireless headset with a wide range; you can move away from the audio source up to 10-12 meters without compromising sound quality.

For me, I always try to minimize wires in my gaming setups because I find it challenging to organize them. So having the Blackshark V2 Pro as a new addition to my setup, getting rid of my old wired headphones, was wonderful and a significant addition. But does this change justify the price at which the headphones are sold, which is $200?

  • Very stylish design, especially in white.
  • Easy compatibility with various platforms such as smartphones, PlayStation 5, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
  • Fast charging support via USB Type-C, whereas the previous version used Micro USB.
  • Wide range of wireless connectivity up to 10-15 meters.
  • Ability to charge while in use.
  • Extremely lightweight.
  • Very comfortable for prolonged use.
  • Detachable and flexible microphone with superb sound quality.

  • No aesthetic RGB aspect in the headset, which slightly detracts from its “gaming headset” status. However, I find the headset, especially in its white version, very elegant even without RGB.

Yes, absolutely! These headphones are an opportunity not to be missed to get a professional-grade experience at a good price and with features rarely found in wireless headphones. Whether you’re using it on PS5, PC, or phone, it’s a fantastic and very stylish headset with one of the best performances in recent years, without a doubt.

  • Are looking for distinctive wireless headphones with exceptional specifications?
  • Are looking for headphones with outstanding batteries that last up to 70 hours.
  • Don’t care about the RGB feature in headphones.
  • Design and Materials – 10
  • Performance – 10
  • Comfort for Extended Use – 10
  • Battery Life – 10
  • Compatibility with Home Devices – 7.5

Personally, the Razer Blackshark V2 Pro 2023 has completely changed the concept of wireless headphones for me, and it has become far superior to any wired headset currently on the market due to its ease of use, comfortable design, and lightweight, making it a trusted companion for gaming from now on. Whether it’s competitive gaming or story-driven games, its crystal-clear sound makes it stand out. I would rate this headset a great 9.5/10.
