Today marks a full year since OpenAI announced GPT-4, an advanced language model that introduced incremental changes over its predecessor.

At launch, the model demonstrated outstanding performance on par with human levels across various professional and academic benchmarks.

Earlier today, the company raised expectations by seemingly revealing details about the upcoming large language model GPT-4.5 Turbo on its blog.

The article, which is currently inaccessible, described the model as surpassing its predecessor (GPT-4) in speed, accuracy, and scalability.

OpenAI Accidentally Leaks GPT-4.5 Turbo via Official Blog Post

The most intriguing aspect of the leak is the mention of “knowledge truncation” in June 2024 for the model. This implies that the AI-powered chatbot will have access to all web knowledge before the upcoming deadline in June 2024.

While some believe this to be an error, others speculate that an OpenAI release in July or August is imminent before the company moves into the market.

One significant upgrade in GPT-4.5 Turbo seems to be a context window length of 256 thousand tokens, doubling the current 128 thousand for GPT-4 Turbo. This move appears to be OpenAI’s response to competitors increasingly launching models with large context windows.

Since Google renamed Bard to Gemini and introduced new updates to its AI model, discussions have been ongoing, with people considering Gemini as their preferred MBA master.

The new GPT model seems to shake things up for OpenAI, potentially pushing them ahead of Google’s AI-powered chatbot.

OpenAI has not officially addressed the leak yet, leaving the status of GPT-4.5 Turbo and the June 2024 date surrounded by mystery.

It’s not entirely coincidental that the leak happened precisely on the first anniversary of GPT-4’s launch. Therefore, we can expect further updates regarding OpenAI soon.
