Excitement is building for Google’s 2024 hardware releases, and the findings keep coming. In the latest update to the Google Home app, the new Nest Audio speaker and, surprisingly, the new Nest Hub Max device were discovered.

With the arrival of the Pixel Tablet, equipped with a Google Assistant smart speaker base, it seemed like the company was working on a Nest Hub lineup.

While there are many things that the older Nest Hub series still handles better, the Pixel Tablet has proven to be a strong centerpiece for the smart home and an Android-powered tablet.

However, a new device was found in the Google Home app (version 3.16) explicitly labeled in the code as “Nest Hub Max,” alongside the previous 2019 model.

Close inspection also confirmed that this upcoming device will use the same smart display Google Assistant experience as all previous Nest Hubs, meaning it won’t be running Android.

When Google released the second-generation Nest Hub, after a minor upgrade to the internals, the main upgrade was the inclusion of a Soli sensor to detect sleep quality. Perhaps we’ll see a similar addition to the second-generation Nest Hub Max.

Elsewhere, the Google Home update also includes signs of a new Nest speaker in the works.

It wouldn’t be surprising for the speaker to simply be called “Nest Audio” in the code, just like its 2020 predecessor.

We’ve previously seen signs of a Nest speaker in development that was slated for release last fall.

The most prominent aspect was that the speaker appears to be equipped with UWB connectivity, similar to what will soon be available for the Pixel Tablet.

However, this hardware effort seems to have hit a roadblock last summer, as Google abandoned its plans to run the device using its own Fuchsia operating system.
