Lens protectors for the anticipated Xperia 1 VI and 10 VI phones have appeared on the Rakuten market in Japan ahead of the Xperia launch event scheduled for May 17.

What’s notable is that both protectors are larger than those found in previous versions, and they feature wider openings that could accommodate larger camera sensors.

The lens protector size for the Xperia 1 VI phone is approximately 1.5 × 5.2 cm compared to the 1.3 × 4.9 cm found in the Xperia V, while the Xperia 10 VI lens protector measures about 1.6 × 3.3 cm, also larger than the previous camera setup area.

There’s a possibility that these larger camera setups are for aesthetics only and that the sensors inside remain unchanged.

An earlier rumor this month claimed that the Xperia 1 VI phone will use the same camera sensors as the previous version: a 24mm main lens with 48-megapixel resolution (f/1.9 aperture and 1/1.35-inch sensor), a 16mm ultra-wide camera with 12-megapixel resolution (f/2.2 aperture and 1/2.5-inch sensor), and an 85-125mm telephoto camera with 12-megapixel resolution (1/3.5-inch sensor and continuous zoom). Sony is expected to offer software improvements as well.

Recently leaked images of the Xperia 1 VI device show a design identical to the Xperia 1 V, with a 6.5-inch elongated screen with a new aspect ratio surpassing the previous 21:9 ratio.

It’s also rumored that Sony will forego 4K resolution on its flagship phone. The device is expected to be launched with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor and up to 16GB of RAM.
