Netflix May Disable Downloads on Windows App

Reports online indicate that Netflix is working on updating its Windows app and may disable the ability to download content for offline viewing.

If true, this would significantly lose subscribers who watch content on their laptops.

According to Artem Russakovskii on X, there is a new alert in the Netflix Windows app that states the following:

User Trevor62271128 on X posted a similar alert from the Netflix app that bypasses the language regarding downloads no longer being supported:

It is difficult to determine what is happening here. The alert may have been a mistake, and the platform will not remove download support from its Windows app.

However, it is also possible that the opposite is accurate and that Trevor62271128’s screenshot needs to be corrected.

There is also a possibility that Netflix only alerts people who use the download feature.

Finally, it is also possible that Netflix is conducting an A/B test to gauge the online reaction to the potential change. We have seen this many times before, so it is within the realm of possibility.
