Most small form-factor PCs come without a separate dedicated graphics processor, primarily due to their modest thermal and power budgets.

For such systems, external GPU (eGPU) units can be helpful in significantly boosting graphics power, and the latest R3GAF eGPU from Minisforums, powered by RX 7600M XT, with OCuLink support, aims to do

The AMD Radeon 7600M XT is a powerful mobile graphics processing unit based on the RDNA 3 architecture.

The graphics processor features 12 CU units and 8 GB of GDDR6 memory, performing impressively well and approaching the performance of the NVIDIA RTX 4070 laptop GPU in synthetic benchmarks.

Typically, the performance of using eGPU compared to direct motherboard connection is a significant drawback. However, OcuLink technology works to mitigate this issue significantly, thanks to its 4-lane PCIe connection featuring speeds of up to 64 GT/s, which is 50% faster than Thunderbolt 4.

It’s worth noting that Minisforum also recently launched the DEG1 graphics base with OCuLink support. Unlike the R3GAF, the former can be configured using advanced cards from both NVIDIA and AMD, including the powerful RTX 4090.

Additionally, the R3GAF features an HDMI 2.1 port, along with two DisplayPort 1.4 ports capable of supporting up to 3 external monitors.

Apart from that, there are also three USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports along with a single Type-C port.

There is no pricing information available yet, but considering that a similarly specced ONEXPLAYER eGPU is currently selling for around USD 750, we can expect the R3GAF to be competitively priced in the same range.
