During the Build 2024 event, software giant Microsoft unveiled a new generation of Copilot Plus devices featuring AI configurations.

The new laptops feature integrated AI technology, offering several enhancements at the operating system level. Satya Nadella, Microsoft’s CEO, emphasized that Microsoft’s partners, including Dell, Lenovo, Samsung, HP, Acer, Asus, and two devices from Microsoft’s Surface series, will be unveiling Copilot Plus PCs during the event.

Microsoft is transitioning its Windows devices to Arm processors, though Intel and AMD-powered devices will also support AI features.

AI capabilities will be supported by the neural processing unit in these laptops. Among the anticipated features is “Recall,” which creates a “photographic memory” using AI, allowing users to retrieve their recent search activities or viewed content.

The laptops will run over 40 AI models within Windows 11. Additionally, the Copilot digital assistant will support the GPT-4o model, introduced by OpenAI last week.

Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft’s Executive VP for Windows, stated that the new generation of laptops will perform 58% faster compared to the MacBook Air with the M3 chip. They will also offer all-day battery life.

Microsoft expects to ship 50 million units of Copilot Plus laptops next year. These devices will meet specific configurations, such as a minimum of 256GB SSD, a neural processing unit, and 16GB of RAM. Devices based on Arm architecture are expected to provide up to 15 hours of web browsing.
