The ThinkPad X1 series is Lenovo’s flagship line of ThinkPad devices. The latest iterations, Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 12 and X1 2-in-1 Gen 9 were announced in time for CES 2024.

The X1 Carbon G12 was immediately released after the announcement but in a limited fashion: availability was restricted to the United States, and only a small quantity of configuration options were purchasable.

The X1 2-in-1, the successor to the ThinkPad X1 Yoga G8 convertible laptop, has not been made available yet, at least not until now.

However, this situation may change as Lenovo has listed the new X1 ThinkPad devices in PSREF, which is Lenovo’s central site for product specifications. This indicates that the general availability of the products is imminent.

Of course, being a specifications database, PSREF pages also reveal more about the laptops than we previously knew.

There will be an option for a higher-resolution webcam, as the specifications sheet lists a UHD/8 MPix webcam. However, webcam upgrades are limited to the 2.8K OLED touchscreen or WUXGA PrivacyGuard display options.

There’s also a new WiFi 7 option in the form of Intel BE200, but individual buyers won’t be able to benefit from the new WiFi solution, as it will be restricted to select pricing options for larger corporate customers.

Lastly, the specifications once again confirm that the X1 2-in-1 will be limited to U-series CPU options, unlike the clamshell model.

Again, general availability for these products shouldn’t be far off, including all configuration options such as the new Sensel touchpad.
