The source, Leica Rumors, which has been sharing updates about the upcoming Leica M11-D camera so far, has confirmed all the rumors, thanks to a leaked quick start guide containing all relevant details.

In summary, the concept behind the “D” release of the M digital series, first introduced with the M10-D in October 2018, is to provide a stripped-down interface that effectively makes the shooting experience as close to film as possible.

This means that, like the M10-D, the M11-D will not feature a touchscreen for image preview in live view or after capture, and hence, there will also be no menu control elements.

The leak confirms that the camera’s rear will feature an ISO dial instead. The M10-D used the same space for an exposure compensation dial and a power on/off switch.

Another confirmed change from the M10-D is that the controversial foldable thumb rest, designed to resemble a film advance lever, has disappeared. Users can, of course, purchase an accessory thumb rest that mounts on the camera’s top mounting point.

As an M11, the detachable baseplate has also been replaced with a lever to remove the battery compartment.

With only basic controls, shutter speed, and ISO on the camera body, the M11-D will attract purist photographers who want the same experience as analog M series cameras.

The Leica FOTOS app for mobile phones can be used to adjust all other settings or for live viewing or previewing captured images. The optional Leica Visoflex 2 electronic camera lens accessory can also be used for the latter two functions.

Internally, the new version is the same as the M11-P, with a full-frame 60-megapixel sensor, Maestro III processor, and 256GB internal storage.

The M11-D is expected to be released this month. However, pricing details still need to be made available.
