At the recent Google I/O conference, Google introduced a new button that will appear at checkout after deciding to purchase a paid app or make an in-app purchase.

This button will allow you to ask someone else, such as a friend or family member, to pay for the app or the in-app purchase.

Clicking the button will create a payment link sent via text message or email to the chosen friend or family member.

When the feature becomes available, upon checkout to finalize a paid app or in-app purchase, you will see a page that says, “Choose how to pay.” At the bottom, a new option will be “Ask someone else to pay.”

The payment link expires after 24 hours, and the person paying you must know your full email address.

The person making the payment will know precisely the name of the app they are paying for and can request a refund. The standard refund policy allows the purchaser to request a refund if less than 48 hours have passed since the purchase.

You can send the automatically generated payment link to your chosen donor using the share sheet, allowing you to send it via email or text.

Along with the payment link, your message will include the app’s name and price or in-app purchase.

The recipient will receive a message that says: “Hi! I want to buy [app name] by [developer name] for $XX.XX. Can you buy it for me through Google Pay? Here is the payment link [payment link].”
