Google has temporarily halted the person generation feature within the Gemini messaging app, citing the need for improvements to ensure accuracy.

This decision follows user feedback indicating inaccuracies and offensive outputs in the generated images.

The feature, powered by the Imagen 2 AI model, faced challenges in creating appropriate and unbiased representations, leading to its suspension.

Google acknowledged these issues, attributing them to challenges in fine-tuning the AI model to avoid inappropriate or biased representations during targeting.

Despite efforts to mitigate issues observed in previous image generation technologies, this feature encountered significant hurdles. At times, it produced unnecessary images or became overly cautious, failing to create images for specific requests.

Senior Vice President Prabhakar Ragavan clarified that the goal is to address these issues through extensive improvements and testing before re-enabling the feature.

He also pointed out the inherent challenges in ensuring the reliability of artificial intelligence, especially concerning sensitive topics, highlighting ongoing efforts to enhance technology accuracy.

Even public figures, including Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, criticized this feature for producing historically inaccurate images.

The comment is part of Google’s broader efforts to responsibly develop artificial intelligence technologies, acknowledging the complexities involved in creating AI systems characterized by creativity and accuracy.

The company stated that it is working diligently to address recent issues and plans to re-release an enhanced version of the image generation feature soon.

Google also advises using Google Search for the latest and most reliable information, sourced from a wide array of web resources through distinguished systems.
