Google Phone App Removes Nearby Places Search Feature

The Google Phone app has removed the nearby places search feature on Android devices, and Google no longer allows searching for businesses using the search field at the top of the app.

In fact, the hint “Search contacts and places” has been updated to “Search contacts” only.

Additionally, “Nearby Places” no longer appears in the settings. The feature will use your location to consider what is nearby.

Enabling “Custom search results” will “improve your search results by including items from your search history.”

Google is officially directing people to use search or maps for phone numbers. This removal allows Google to “focus on building high-quality, reliable, and innovative phone call experiences.”
