Google Messages app removes Nudge replies and birthday reminders

After being introduced in 2022, the Google Messages app for Android has removed the feature known as “Nudges,” which prompted users to reply, along with birthday reminders.

Nudges served as a “reminder to reply to or follow up on a message after a certain time.” This concept was first introduced in 2018 for Gmail.

As of the latest beta release of Google Messages (version 20240429_01_RC00), the Nudge feature no longer appears in Settings > Suggestions, which is now home to Smart Replies, suggestions, Smart Compose, and suggested stickers.

Today, Google still announces the capability on its intended Android page introduced in late March.

The Messages app is set to remove Assistant integration in 2023. Messages considered an alternative feature called “Spotlights,” but that never materialized.
