Aqara has recently launched a new, cost-effective smart lock for homeowners. The Aqara U50 is compatible with Matter and works with Apple Home Key via HomeKit, priced at under $150.

Aqara allows re-keying the U50 smart lock, so you can continue using your existing 5-pin key.

Currently, the lock supports all major smart home platforms, including Google Home, SmartThings, Alexa, and, of course, HomeKit via Matter. This also allows you to use voice assistants to unlock your door remotely.

Matter compatibility also means that the U50 smart lock integrates well with other smart home devices within the Aqara ecosystem, such as the Video Doorbell G4.

It also works seamlessly with other Matter-compatible smart home devices as long as an Aqara hub is available.

If the hub goes offline, the U50 lets you use one-time/recurring temporary passwords to grant access as long as it remains powered.

Aqara claims that the U50 battery life should last up to six months, and replacing the battery is relatively easy.
