Apple is set to introduce a host of new features in the watchOS 11 update, with a particular focus on fitness training, among other enhancements to support Apple Watch users.

The upcoming watchOS 11 features include the “Training Load” feature for the Activities app and the new Vitals app.

Scheduled to be available this fall for compatible Apple Watches, the new Vitals app will collect data on the user’s vital signs to provide better insights into their health status.

Apple Watch sensors will monitor details such as heart rate, wrist temperature, and respiration. The watch will then integrate this data to detect changes in the user’s health and alert them if any biometric measurements deviate from the norm.

The updated Activity app in watchOS 11 introduces new capabilities, including the “Training Load” feature, which measures the intensity of workouts and their long-term impact on the user.

The app will evaluate each workout on a scale of one to ten using GPS, heart rate sensors, and space, along with personal details such as age and weight. Users can also manually adjust or reject the evaluation summary, which will show the impact level of the workout, ranging from high to low.

Additionally, the Workout app will feature a check-in button, allowing family members or friends to confirm the user’s safe return home after exercising. Users will also be able to customize the Activity app via their iPhone, set weekly goals, and adjust rest days.

In the fitness app, Apple introduced a new customizable summary display on the iPhone. The Cycle Tracking app will now support pregnancy tracking, providing health data during pregnancy to monitor any changes in health indicators.

The “Smart Stack” feature offers a more efficient interface for apps, enabling users to swipe up from the bottom to reveal active app elements and receive real-time updates.

The Smart Stack interface will alert users to impending rain and highlight the widget for live translation, which is applicable while traveling.

Apple also announced the Translate app for Apple Watch users, which supports up to 20 languages and allows third-party widgets access to the Smart Stack interface.

Machine learning technology will help select the best photos to display on the watch face. Developers can start experimenting with the new features in watchOS 11 from today.
