Siri Gets a Major AI Upgrade

Apple is set to integrate AI technology into its various operating systems and services. At the annual WWDC event, the company highlighted its vision for AI with the new “Apple Intelligence” platform.

“Apple Intelligence” is the new brand unveiled by Apple during the event, aiming to integrate AI technology into existing operating systems and applications to enhance software capabilities and maximize benefits.

The platform relies on Apple’s homegrown technology and collaboration with OpenAI, the developer of the ChatGPT chatbot.

Siri, the digital assistant, is set to receive the most significant upgrade, now supporting many language models developed for generative AI technology.

Over the years, Apple has significantly improved Siri, and with the new upgrade, the digital assistant will better integrate into operating systems and applications. For instance, Siri can now summarize news articles, delete emails, or edit photos.

The digital assistant will also execute over 100 actions, such as searching for images based on specific descriptions or identifying information about a person in photos. Additionally, Siri can extract information from an ID card in a picture and automatically fill out forms.

Users can also ask Siri questions via text input as an alternative to voice commands in the new update.

The “Apple Intelligence” platform also enhances the user experience in Safari and highlights the most important notifications. Similar to Gmail and Outlook, Apple devices will suggest appropriate responses to emails and text messages.

Furthermore, Apple introduces the new “Writing Tools” as one of the AI features, supporting users in creating, rewriting, or summarizing texts across various operating systems. These tools are beneficial in emails and blog posts.

Due to the new collaboration between Apple and OpenAI, Siri will also integrate GPT-4, the latest and most comprehensive language model developed by OpenAI, into the digital assistant and writing tools.

Apple emphasizes that the company will not store users’ request details or personal information, such as IP addresses unless the user’s device is connected to a paid ChatGPT account.

The “Apple Intelligence” platform will initially be available in a beta version, compatible with iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPads, and Macs with M1 chips or later versions. The technology requires devices to be set to US English.
