Apple attempted to avoid the lawsuit brought against it in the United Kingdom, in which 1,500 developers participated to claim a billion-dollar financial penalty.

A British court has agreed to hear a lawsuit filed against Apple by a large number of developers in the United Kingdom seeking to fine Apple a billion dollars due to allegations against the tech giant of imposing unfair fees of up to 30%.

The developers participating in the lawsuit, numbering 1,500, assert that Apple exploits its position in the markets as a technology leader to control app developers distributing apps on iPad and iPhone devices, causing harm to app developers. Therefore, developers seek compensation for this harm.

Apple’s defense team pointed out that the company does not impose fees on developers for purchases made in the UK market, so developers have no right to sue from Apple’s perspective.

Additionally, the judge responded during the hearing session to Apple’s statements, stating, “Apple imposing excessive fees on UK app developers, even for app interfaces outside the UK market, falls under the laws applicable to the United Kingdom.”

It is worth mentioning that Apple has faced this category of lawsuits in the European Union, and Apple recently began making changes to the company’s policies, allowing external app stores to collect fees from users.
