Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference kicked off today. The event focused on new features in upcoming operating system releases and began with a spotlight on the VisionOS platform and the announcement of VisionOS 2.

During the event, Mike Rockwell highlighted that the VisionOS platform now includes new applications like the NBA app. Additionally, the Vision Pro headset now supports over 2,000 apps, along with compatibility for 1.5 million iPhone and iPad apps with the mixed reality headset.

Apple revealed the new features in the VisionOS 2 update, which introduces Spatial Photos through the Photos app. The update also supports the “SharePlay” feature for sharing spatial or panoramic photos with other users of the mixed-reality headset.

The VisionOS 2 interface now offers better integration. Users can keep their hands open and tap to access the home screen. This version also supports wrist rotation to display the time and battery status.

Users will also be able to mirror the macOS interface with higher display quality and larger size, offering ultra-widescreen support. VisionOS 2 will support developers in creating and developing spatial applications with a new API that facilitates the creation of apps compatible with large surfaces.

The VisionOS 2 interface will also support the seamless creation of spatial content. Canon is contributing by launching new spatial lenses for the EOS R7 camera, enabling the creation of videos surpassing the iPhone 15 Pro quality. These spatial videos will later be available on the Vimeo app.

During the event, Apple showcased 180-degree, 8K 3D spatial video clips and announced a collaboration with Blackmagic to provide a new workspace for creators to produce creative videos more smoothly.

Vision Pro will be available in China, Japan, and Singapore on June 28 and in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom on July 12.
