Google’s Live Caption feature, a favorite among Android users, is poised to receive several enhancements that promise to make it more user-friendly.

At the recent Google I/O event, the company unveiled a number of major accessibility features coming to Android, including a significant update to Live Caption.

The update, expected to roll out this month, introduces a new bar that allows users to easily adjust the number of caption lines displayed on their screens.

This is a welcome addition for users seeking more control over caption display, especially those who may struggle with smaller text sizes.

Currently, the Live Caption window can display two or three lines of text, depending on the size. Although more text could be squeezed in by adjusting the caption text size at the system level, this workaround also affects media apps with built-in captions.

The new bar feature eliminates this issue, providing users with greater flexibility without changing system-wide settings.

Additionally, Live Caption is expected to receive more customization options, such as toggling emoji icons, emphasizing emotional intensity, including emotional tags, and displaying word duration.

These features could further enhance the user experience, making Live Caption a more valuable tool for a wider range of users.

While Google has not yet specified the exact number of lines that can be displayed with the new bar, an image shared during the I/O presentation suggests it could be up to four.

Furthermore, it remains unclear whether the feature will initially be rolled out on Google’s Pixel devices or if it will be available on all Android devices that support Live Caption.

Since Live Caption is part of the Android System Intelligence app and is available in versions for device manufacturers, many Android brands will likely also benefit from this update.
