Over the past few years, Acer has made significant efforts in developing SpatialLabs, a comprehensive and practical ecosystem for creating and displaying 3D content. This includes the Predator Helios 3D 15 and Aspire 3D 15 laptops, the SpatialLabs View 3D monitor series, and a suite of software tools for developers.

The company has launched the final piece: the SpatialLabs Eyes Stereo Camera, or ASEC-1, a stereoscopic camera that allows anyone to capture 3D content easily.

The camera measures 10.4 × 6.5 × 2.3 cm (4 × 2.5 × 0.9 inches) and weighs 220 grams (0.4 pounds), making the ASEC-1 roughly the same size as a typical compact digital camera.

The device is weather-resistant and features a selfie mirror on the front, which is a nice touch for such a device.

The lenses have an equivalent focal length of 21mm and an f/2.0 aperture. Behind them are two 8-megapixel sensors, capable of outputting images up to 7680 × 2160 resolution and videos at 7680 × 2160 resolution at 30 frames per second in side-by-side (SBS) format. There is also electronic image stabilization (EIS), and the 2.4-inch touchscreen can be used for focusing and spot metering.

The standout feature is its ability to perform 3D live streaming and video calls. SpatialLabs Player 3.0 enables live streaming on YouTube and other platforms, while the SpatialLabs video call tool, which will be released later this year, is required for video calls, which are supported on Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Meet.

The live streaming and video conferencing features are fascinating, considering that the captured 3D video is perfect for viewing Acer’s SpatialLabs Edition laptops and monitors and VR/AR headsets like Meta Quest 3 and Apple Vision Pro.

The SpatialLabs Eyes Camera will be available in the third quarter of this year, with prices starting at $549 (549 Euros in Europe).

Alongside the camera, Acer will also release several new software tools for developers, including plugins for Unreal and Unity.
